One of the challenges of designing for a little boy is how quickly styles can date, especially when centered on a favorite movie or TV character. This classic toddler room, from Great Kids Rooms Collection, on the other hand, is neutral, sophisticated and hinges upon a love that’s unlikely to fade with age: a little boy’s love of dogs. Besides the framed beagle and Jack Russell prints on the wall, there’s a dog-bedecked cushion and, upon closer examination, the upholstery on the window bench also features a dog print.
How To:
Find novelty fabric at your local fabric store or try the prints at bearpawquilting.com. (If you’re not handy with a needle, hire a local seamstress to whip up some inexpensive cushion covers for you.)
A tan, cream, and dark wood palette (with hits of burnt orange by the window) create a calm and elegant ambiance.
Although this room features a crib, similarly dark-stained and painted furniture for older boys is readily available at major retailers such as Sears.
The tonal stripes on the wall and checked-chair slipcover (machine washable, of course) are masculine and the padded Berber rug ensures a safe surface for boyish horseplay.
